Thomas DUBUISSON has specialized in intellectual property and related rights, and has a keen interest in wearable tech. After graduating from Law School in 2010 (Catholic University, Louvain-la-Neuve), Thomas obtained a specialized LL.M. degree in both the Netherlands (LL.M, Maastricht University) and the U.S. (LL.M, The George Washington University), which provide him an in-depth understanding of both the civil and common law traditions.
He then further developed his practical knowledge and skills through traineeship programs at major intellectual property institutions, namely the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), and The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Thomas was called to the Brussels Bar in May 2015. He started his 3-year apprenticeship at a U.S. law firm in the IP Litigation practice group where he participated in various stages of litigation. He then followed his apprenticeship at a Franco-Belgian firm within the advertising, E-marketing, Media & ICT practice.
Thomas is also an occasional guest blogger for various IP blogs and contributes monthly to the “International IP Legal Updates Newsletter” of the American Bar Association.
He is also a member of the : Belgian National Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (ANBPPI / BNVBIE) ; International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and Robotics Law Association (ADDR).
He is fluent in French and English and is proficient in Spanish and Dutch. Thomas joined the ULYS team in October 2016.
